A messy synoptic picture across Britain and Ireland this weekend with pressure trying to rise but with a lingering weather front continuing to bring cloudier skies and some showery rain in places. It may well be the early part of next week before that front fizzles out and high pressure starts to exert more influence.
The weekend starts off with that frontal system extending down from eastern Scotland, across northern and western parts of England including Wales along with eastern parts of Ireland. This means a grey start for these areas with some rain and drizzle in places and changes will be slow today as that front remains very slow-moving. To the west it is a brighter but cooler start whilst to the south and east it is also mainly dry with some mist and low cloud to clear. Away from the frontal zone there will be some sunny spells today but the sunshine will trigger some scattered heavy showers this afternoon, most likely across parts of south Wales and up through parts of the Midlands. It will be another warm day for central and eastern regions with top temperatures in the range of 21°C to 24°C, but it will be cooler further to the north and west.
That slow-moving frontal system doesn't go far tonight and is likely to reinvigorate again with bursts of rain developing and pushing northwards. Meanwhile, to the west of this front across Ireland and Northern Ireland, another band of rain will move in from off the Atlantic so this leaves central and south-eastern regions of the UK with a mainly dry night with some low cloud and mist forming. Tomorrow sees a fair amount of cloud in many regions with further bursts of showery rain developing, perhaps turning heavy at times, but for south-eastern parts of England it is likely to remain bright and warm for much of the time.
