The new working week is here and it's starting off on a cooler note for many areas with temperatures overnight having dropped back into single figures widely and even low enough for a touch of ground frost in one or two rural spots. However, this does mean there is plenty of sunshine on offer today once any early mist and fog patches have cleared and for much of the country it will be a fine and dry day with temperatures picking up into the mid-teens. Some cloud will bubble up during the day, with the best of the sunshine across south-western regions, but most places will stay dry.
There is an exception though, and this comes across northern Britain and in particular, Scotland, where increasingly cloudy skies are feeding in from the northwest as a frontal system moves in. This system will be bringing outbreaks of rain and drizzle with it, initially to northern and western regions but spreading further south and east during the course of the day although southern Scotland won't see too much in the way of rain. The cloud will hold temperatures back a touch here, with maximums just about making the low teens in places.
That cloudy, damp weather in the north will sink southwards across northern and eastern parts of England tonight with rather misty and murky conditions developing. Clearer skies towards the south and west will mean the lowest temperatures will be found here, values dropping back into single figures, but it will be milder under the cloud further north and east.
Not too much changes as we go into tomorrow with many areas seeing a fair amount of cloud whilst some rain and drizzle continues to affect parts of the north and east. This will leave south-western regions with the best of the bright or sunny spells along with the warmest temperatures although the far northeast of Scotland and the Northern Isles will also be brighter but colder.
