A dry and fine start to Tuesday for many regions with some early sunshine around away from the far north and northeast of Scotland and the Northern Isles where it is rather dull and damp and is likely to remain so for much of the day. It's also a cloudy start to the day across Northern Ireland, eastern parts of Ireland and the west of Wales and Cornwall where a band of cloud and rain is slowly pushing eastwards.
This rain band will tend to pep up as we go through the day with the rain turning heavier and more persistent by this afternoon across these western regions, some of that rain making its way up towards the Western Isles of Scotland too. To the west of this rain band, across western parts of Ireland, it will remain mostly dry and bright with just the odd scattered shower breaking out.
The best of the weather today (if you like warm sunshine) will be found across central and eastern regions of the UK where it will remain mostly fine all day and although some cloud will develop, turning the sunshine hazy at times, it will remain dry. In the sunshine those temperatures will be picking up with it becoming very warm towards the southeast of England where maximums of 25°C or 26°C are expected. For much of England and Wales temperatures will be in the low-mid twenties, but it will be cooler towards the north and west, especially under any cloud and rain.
That rain band in the west will push eastwards this evening and tonight with perhaps some thundery showers developing towards the southeast of England for a time, but most of this rain will be pulling away to the north by the end of the night leaving a few showers in the west. Tomorrow is then looking mainly fine and bright for many regions once more with the west seeing a drier and brighter day, but further showers and possible thunderstorms look set to arrive from the south and southwest late on in the day.
