One of those days today... Monday morning and you walk outside and realise that if it's this warm at 6am then it's gonna be salad for dinner tonight regardless, that oven is not going on!
Interestingly, the warmest place at the moment across the UK is actually the peaks of Dartmoor and Exmoor. Hardly summer sunbathing destinations, but thanks to the warm airflow at mid levels, so the surface has cooled across the UK overnight somewhat, but the peaks are unaffected by this and draw in the Saharan air at elevation.
Today is actually more important to meteorologists than you might imagine. We are expecting maxima of 39C across Eastern areas this afternoon. This really does set the precedent for tomorrow. If the GFS gets this wrong then tomorrows temperatures will also be wrong, because tomorrow depends on the maxima and minima from today.
Away from temperatures for a second and cloud across Ireland will continue to nudge East and some cloud developing across Northern England and Southwest England later, but largely dry, sunny and very hot across much of England today. Will the UK temperature record go today? Who knows, but you can see the UK live temperature recordings as they come in every minute on the link below.
You know the score today, avoid the intense sun around midday, carry a bottle (not wine) and go easy... It's gonna be a hot one.
