The working week ends with high pressure to the north of the UK and low pressure beginning to encroach from the south. Pressure will continue to fall over the coming days as a trend to more unsettled conditions develops in many areas.
Back to this morning and winds continue to come in from the east or northeast for many regions so there is a fair amount of low cloud and mist across central and eastern Britain this morning, some of that low cloud bringing some patchy rain and drizzle in places. Out towards the west and it is generally a brighter start and sunny spells will develop more widely as we go through the day although that low cloud will stubbornly linger towards parts of the east and northeast keeping it chilly here.
The main difference today will be increasing risk of some scattered showers breaking out across southern counties of England and Wales, especially south of a line from north Wales across to The Wash. Not everywhere will see a shower with many places staying dry, but where they do occur they could turn heavy with some torrential downpours and even some hail and thunder.
Maximum temperatures will respond well to the sunshine with maximums in the brighter regions ranging from 19°C to 23°C, but where it remains overcast and misty along eastern and north-eastern coasts it will be much cooler with values struggling to make the low teens in places.
That mist and low cloud will feed back in from the North Sea across many central and eastern regions again this evening and tonight but any showers towards the south and southwest will tend to ease for a time. The weekend sees an increasing risk of showers breaking out across southern regions, these potentially turning heavy and persistent at times, with the best of the drier and sunnier conditions across north-western regions.
