Storm Eowyn will be impacting many regions today but it is the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, southern and south-western Scotland along with parts of northwest England where the stormiest conditions are expected and therefore the greatest risk of significant damage and disruption occurring.
Eowyn is currently tracking north-eastwards close to the northwest of Ireland and will continue this process today, tracking across western and northern Scotland where some very low pressure readings of around 945-950mb can be expected during the course of the day along with a period of light winds before they strengthen later. The strongest winds are on the southern flank of this storm, currently affecting western Ireland where gusts in excess of 100MPH are being reported, and this core of stormy winds will extend across into Northern Ireland this morning and then over into southern and south-western Scotland where gusts of 80-100MPH are possible, perhaps even higher in exposed spots, bringing the risk of significant damage and disruption.
Away from these regions it will be very windy in most regions with gales or severe gales gusting 50-70MPH, and perhaps locally higher across parts of northern England down into north and west Wales before those winds slowly ease from the southwest this afternoon.
Outbreaks of rain, and snow over higher ground in Scotland, are also affecting many areas this morning and these will continue to push north and east this morning to leave many parts of the country with a fairly dry and bright afternoon and just a few showers towards the west. For much of Scotland though it will remain mostly cloudy with further spells of rain and hill snow as those stormy winds move through.
Temperatures will be pretty academic with all this weather activity but temperatures today will range from 5°C to 7°C in the north and 8°C to 11°C in the south.
Conditions will gradually quieten down from the south this evening and tonight although it will remain very windy across northern Britain with further showers feeding in from the west. Tomorrow is then set to be another rather windy day with a band of showery rain, and some snow over higher ground and in the north, pushing eastwards ahead of more wind and rain sweeping in from the southwest during the course of Sunday.
