Remaining Unsettled But Some ChangesAdded : Sunday at 18:15 We hope that you're all having a great Easter Day and that you've not indulged in too much chocolate! As far as the weather goes it's more of the same with low pressure remaining in charge for the foreseeable, but subtle changes in wind direction during the coming week could mean a change in temperatures.
Here is the synoptic chart for tonight:
Although many areas have seen a drier and somewhat brighter spell of weather today, those frontal systems are already bringing outbreaks of rain across much of the southwest, as shown by the latest rainfall radar:
This rain will continue to push northwards tonight, and as it meets the colder air in place across central and northern regions then a period of snow is expected over higher ground for a time before milder air follows on from the south:
The freezing level chart shows up very well the difference in air masses as those fronts push northwards:
Reflected nicely by the forecast temperatures at ground level:
By midweek temperatures for many will be nearer normal for early April:
But by next weekend milder air looks like it may push up from the south bringing more respectable temperatures:
The reason for this? A change in wind direction. For the first part of the week we have low pressure sitting close to or over the country bringing milder south-westerly winds to many although the far north will be slower to see a recovery in temperatures:
However, by next weekend the GFS ► is keen to build pressure to our east which helps to draw winds up from the Mediterranean:
This afternoon's UKMO output is thinking along similar lines it seems:
So if it is something milder that you are after then there are signs from the output of temperatures picking up to near normal this week before potentially climbing a touch above by next weekend, especially towards the south and east. However, if it's a settled outlook that you want then we still appear to be a long way from high pressure taking over - warmer rain anyone?
