Warming Up At LastAdded : Saturday at 15:15 A big change in the weather this week as we lose the nagging easterly wind off the cold North Sea and instead pick up south/south-easterlies as high pressure builds close to the east of the country.
Here is today's synoptic chart:
The easterlies have gone and instead we have very light winds across the country which means that the strong April sunshine has been able to burn off a lot of that low cloud, mist and murk, as shown by the latest visible satellite picture:
There are some areas still being plagued by the misty low cloud, but on the whole it is a big improvement for most places on the last few days with temperatures responding well towards the southeast:
So if we take a look at the charts for the next few days we can see how Atlantic low pressure winds itself up and tries to take control, but high pressure to the east refuses to budge and in the end the Atlantic low backs off. Sunday sees low pressure and its associated frontal systems pushing east across the UK and Ireland, but the rain will become more showery as the front weakens:
By Monday and Tuesday rain-bearing fronts are mainly confined to the north and west with south-eastern regions turning drier and warmer:
Then by Wednesday that high really takes control and deflects those frontal systems away to the north and west of the country:
The second half of the week is then looking mostly warm and settled with temperatures quite widely expected to make the low twenties:
Details as we go into next weekend then look more uncertain - the latest GFS ► output wants to bring in low pressure from the southwest:
The ECMWF ► model is going for pressure to remain high keeping things mainly settled:
That's all a long way off though so for now our advice is to enjoy the change in the weather but bear in mind that we are at the time of year where the pollen index will be increasing, along with UV levels, so the usual precautions will be required.
