Back To NormalAdded : Sunday at 14:45 The last couple of months have delivered some rather impressive weather events across parts of the UK and Ireland with the "Beast from the East" bringing some very cold and snowy weather at the beginning of March whilst the last few days have seen some of the warmest conditions in April for almost 70 years in places followed by some rather active thunderstorms last night across many parts of England.
The next few days will see conditions returning to more normal for the second half of April with temperatures returning to near average (that is the low teens) and a westerly flow dominating.
This is the chart for earlier on today:
You can see the thundery trough over southern England that gave last night's fun and games but now attention is on the cold fronts out to the west - by tonight they have cleared away to the east, allowing a much cooler and fresher air mass to return from the west:
A return to a more traditional pattern for our part of the world this week with low pressure to the north and northwest of the country whilst the Azores High sinks back south-westwards. This means frontal systems will cross the country from time to time bringing bands of rain with them, but there will also be some brighter and more showery conditions in-between.
Monday sees a mostly dry and bright day for many areas, but cloud and rain will arrive in the west during the second half of the day:
This pushes east on Monday night so that by Tuesday many places are drier and brighter again with some showers in the north and west. However the synoptic chart shows that frontal system may well hang around close to southern counties for much of the day with a wave feature developing and pushing north-eastwards along it meaning that southern regions remain rather dull and wet:
The second half of the week is then looking more like a straightforward showery set-up with westerly winds bringing a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers:
With temperatures back down to where they should be for this time of year:
A more traditional week of weather is on the cards for much of Britain and Ireland then with April showers featuring in many regions and temperatures returning back to normal, which will feel rather chilly after the last few days.
