Farewell Blue SkiesAdded : Sunday at 15:30 We're coming to the end of an April that is likely to go down as one of the sunniest and warmest April's, however the weather this week is going to do its best to upset any record attempts as a more unsettled regime sets up.
Recent days have seen many regions enjoy wall to wall sunshine and stunning blue skies with the lack of aircraft and contrails noticeable . However, it is only April and mother nature is set to remind us of that as temperatures drop back and rain returns.
Here is today's synoptic chart:
Pressure is falling across the country with an upper trough to the north of Scotland sending its associated cold front south-eastwards:
This front is fairly weak, but will help spark a few heavy showers across parts of Wales, the Midlands and eastern England during the next few hours:
Some locally heavy downpours are possible in places, with a risk of a rumble or two of thunder, but many places will miss them and stay dry,
That cold front will only very slowly sink southwards tonight and tomorrow, even by dawn tomorrow it's still lying across parts of north Wales and northern England whilst showers affect the northwestL
It continues its slow journey south tomorrow bringing a cloudier day to southern regions of the country with temperatures lower as a result:
Meanwhile for regions further north there will be some drier and brighter weather around but plenty of showers too, especially towards the north and northwest.
As we head further into the week so conditions turn even more unsettled as low pressure pushes in from the southwest bringing outbreaks of rain north-eastwards during the midweek period:
A return to more traditional conditions but the rain will undoubtedly be welcomed by gardeners and growers following the recent dry spell.
