Improvement Later This WeekAdded : Sunday at 14:55 Another day, another area of low pressure bringing cool conditions, mostly cloudy skies and showers or longer spells of rain. The cool temperatures are something that we have become accustomed to over the last couple of months with March 30th currently holding the record for the warmest day of the year so far. However, whilst April was exceptionally dry, May has been making up the shortfall in rainfall amounts.
Here is the pressure chart for tonight:
Low pressure sitting over western Scotland with the main band of rain clearing to the east to leave a showery set-up for the first part of the new week:
The heaviest showers on Monday look set to be across inland parts of England and Wales with hail and thunder possible:
By Tuesday the heaviest showers look set to be further to the north and east as a frontal system flirts with the far southwest bringing the risk of a spell of rain here:
Thereafter and things do look set to gradually take an upturn, but it won't necessarily be a straightforward transition to something warmer and more settled. The Azores High looks set to ridge north-eastwards to try and link up with pressure building to the north of the UK, but at the same time a weakening frontal system looks like it will be trying to push in from off the Atlantic:
Current guidance is favouring high pressure to win out over next weekend though with the GFS ► and ECMWF ► showing promise if it is warmer and sunnier weather that you are after:
A note of caution though, recent trends have seen the model output showing high pressure out at days 8 to 10 being weakened as the timeframe in question moves closer so watch out for the possibility of disturbances, hence why it may not be a straightforward transition.
