24 Hours Of ShenanigansAdded : Tuesday at 16:35 Some rather interesting weather across Western parts of the UK over the next 24 hours which have prompted us to put out a couple of watches with regards to data coming into the Towers this afternoon.
The first thing of interest is across parts of Northern England overnight and into tomorrow. This is what's happening...
Check out the latest chart :-
This little area of low pressure is what's causing the headaches with many forecasters around the country at the moment. Nothing too sinister on this chart, but when we add in two more charts you'll see why. The first is the temperature chart :-
Rain wrapped around an active frontal system will run into this colder air across parts of the Northern Pennines overnight and into tomorrow which will turn readily to snow above 150m
There could be some impressive accumulations where the front stalls.
The other area is one which we picked up on a few hours ago when low level surface data came into us from some SYNOPs from the West Country and around the Bay of Biscay.
You can see the heavy rainfall picked up by the GFS ► across parts of Southwest England and South Wales tomorrow morning :-
The reason the GFS ► has picked up on this is down to a drier boundary layer than the 00z and 06z models have shown. This, combined with uplift to the East of the centre of the low and also the front sitting right under the exit of a low level jet stream :-
The ingredients are there for some hefty showers to push in from the Southwest later today and overnight with some strong wind gusts around any developing showers due to impressive tilting of the systems.
No guarantees, but the risk of a wild night and early hours across Western parts of the UK and one which we thought you should be aware of.
