Busy Week AheadAdded : Sunday at 13:03 September this year looks like taking a fast-track into autumn proper with active Atlantic low pressure systems set to be the main feature of the weather in the next few days bringing strong winds and heavy rain at times. However, are there signs of something more settled developing in the extended outlook? Read on to find out!
Let's start with the present time and the next area of low pressure moving in from the west is already here bringing showers and spells of rain with it:
A look at the forecast synoptic chart for tonight shows the culprit:
A very autumnal looking chart we're sure you'll agree and there will be some blustery winds around that system, especially towards the southwest tomorrow morning where winds could gust up to 50-60 mph in exposed spots:
This takes us into a showery day on Monday with a weak ridge of high pressure bringing a drier and brighter spell on Tuesday. However late on Tuesday and into Wednesday we are watching the potential development of a secondary low which could deep and run eastwards across central regions of the country bringing heavy rain and the risk of gales.
There is still some uncertainty over the exact track and intensity of this system and this will ultimately determine the weather conditions that we experience, but needless to say we will be keeping a close eye on this one with charts such as these ones showing up:
So plenty of changeable weather on the way in the next few days, but as we head towards next weekend there are some signs of a change taking place. The jet stream starts to head north:
And this potentially allows for high pressure to build in from the southwest bringing more in the way of quieter and more sedate weather to the country:
However, this could bring another weather hazard that becomes more common as we go into autumn - fog:
