A bright and reasonably warm day developing for many regions today despite low pressure still sitting to the south and southeast of the country. The weekend doesn't see a huge amount of change but high pressure will be trying to ridge across many regions which should lessen the shower risk.
Back to this morning and it's a misty and murky start to the day for many regions and the remnants of the frontal system that gave central and eastern regions of England along with much of Wales a rather wet spell yesterday are still bringing a fair amount of cloud to much of northern England, southern parts of Scotland, Wales and Ireland. There is already some sunshine around, especially for northern and southern regions, and as we go through the day skies will tend to brighten in many places although much of Ireland may remain overcast and damp.
As the warm sunshine breaks through, and with there still being some instability in the atmosphere thanks to low pressure over the near continent, then a scattering of showers will break out by this afternoon. They will be hit-and-miss affairs with many places missing them, but where they do occur then they could turn heavy with a rumble or two of thunder.
In the sunshine temperatures will reach highs of 19°C to 22°C quite widely so feeling very pleasant but it will remain a touch cooler around coasts where onshore breezes feed in.
Little change is expected over the weekend with misty and murky starts giving way to bright or sunny spells which will help to lift temperatures into the low-twenties, but scattered heavy and thundery showers will break out in places too although they will be hit-and-miss with many regions staying mainly dry.
