Changeable Midweek Period

Low pressure remains firmly in charge of our weather as we move through the middle of the week with another area of rain and brisk winds spreading north and east across the country today. There will be some drier and brighter weather around too, particularly towards the far north and southeast, but overall it will be another rather changeable day.

Wednesday begins with outbreaks of rain across many parts of Ireland, Northern Ireland, southernmost Scotland, Wales and northern, western and central England, with some heavier bursts possible in places. Through the morning this rain will continue to push eastwards, gradually becoming more showery as it does so, although across southern counties of England rainfall amounts are likely to be fairly small. Somewhat brighter conditions will develop from the west this afternoon, with some spells of sunshine breaking through, although further scattered showers remain possible. Much of Scotland, meanwhile, should have a largely dry day with some decent sunny spells. It will be quite breezy in places with temperatures generally reaching around 16°C to 20°C across the north and west and 20°C to 22°C across much of England and Wales, perhaps a little higher towards the southeast where it stays dry and bright.

Outbreaks of rain and drizzle across northern and eastern areas will gradually move away to the east this evening, leaving a mixture of clear spells and scattered showers overnight. The showers will be most frequent across western areas, where a few could be heavy while many central and eastern regions become largely dry. Thursday then looks set to continue the changeable theme, with a mixture of sunny spells and showers across many areas. Some of the showers could be heavy, particularly across western and northern parts of the country, while southern and eastern areas should once again see the best of the drier and brighter weather.
