
The cooler and fresher theme continues across Britain and Ireland as we head towards the end of the working week but there are signs of a change as high pressure starts to build in from the west bringing increasingly settled conditions as we move into the weekend.
Friday morning will see a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers across the country with the showers initially most frequent across northern and western regions. Through the morning and into the afternoon these showers will become more widespread for a time, particularly across parts of northern and eastern England as well across Wales with one or two locally heavy downpours possible. However, compared with recent days the showers should generally be fewer and further between and there will be some decent spells of sunshine in between.
This leaves many parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland mostly likely to see the best of the dry weather developing during today with some sunny spells, but even here one or two showers could develop for a time. Winds will generally be lighter than recently but with a northerly component it will remain on the cool and fresh side for August. Temperatures will typically reach the mid to high teens across Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with highs of around 18°C to 21°C across much of England and Wales.
Friday evening sees the showers gradually dying away to leave most places dry overnight with clear spells developing quite widely. Under the clearer skies and with winds becoming light, temperatures will fall away quite quickly and it could turn rather chilly in some rural areas by dawn as temperatures dip down into single figures. Saturday then looks like being a largely fine day across Britain and Ireland as high pressure begins to exert more of an influence on our weather. There may still be a few showers around, particularly across southern parts of Britain, but for most places it should be a mainly dry day with variable amounts of cloud and some good spells of sunshine.
