The largely fine and settled weather continues this weekend across many parts of Britain and Ireland as high pressure remains firmly in control. However, there will be some subtle changes taking place as the high becomes centred to the north of the country, allowing slightly cooler east to north-easterly winds to develop across southern and eastern areas.
For much of England, Wales, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland it is a fine and warm start to the weekend, although some low cloud has drifted in from the east overnight as that breeze begins to pick up. This low cloud will gradually lift and burn away through the morning leaving many areas with another fine day and plenty of sunshine. However, some stubborn mist and low cloud may linger around eastern coasts keeping conditions noticeably cooler here. With that easterly influence developing, the highest temperatures today will shift further west with parts of Wales and southwest England likely to see maximums climbing into the low-thirties. Elsewhere, values will generally be a little lower than yesterday, particularly across eastern regions where that breeze will take the edge off the heat.
Meanwhile, for Scotland it is once again a rather different story. A frontal system will bring plenty of cloud along with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, especially across central and eastern parts of the country. This cloud and rain will slowly sink a little further south through the day while brighter and drier conditions gradually develop towards the north and west. Temperatures here will be much lower, with highs generally in the high teens or low twenties at best.
A fine evening and night follows for most places, although the odd thundery shower cannot be completely ruled out. Remaining outbreaks of rain towards northern and north-eastern areas will gradually fade, but low cloud will become more extensive overnight. As a result, Sunday will dawn rather cloudy for many. However, the cloud should lift and break through the day allowing plenty of sunny spells to develop once again. With the east to north-easterly breeze continuing the highest temperatures will remain focused towards western and south-western regions while eastern areas stay a little fresher.
