This image is of Storm Ciara who is set to sweep in across Britain and Ireland later today and tomorrow bringing some potentially stormy conditions as winds gust to over 80 MPH in exposed spots. Our advice is to use today to tie down any loose objects in the garden and to prepare for some very squally weather with further blustery conditions expected into next week.
Back to this morning and the last of the overnight cloud and rain is now moving away from north-eastern parts of Scotland and for many areas there will be plenty of dry and bright weather around today with some spells of sunshine. Cloud amounts will tend to increase from the west as we go through the day with strengthening winds bringing outbreaks of heavy rain into western parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland during this afternoon. It will be turning milder in many areas with top temperatures in the range of 8°C to 11°C, but the wind will make it feel colder, especially in the west and northwest as gales or severe gales develop later with gusts of 60 MPH possible in exposed regions.
That wind and rain will sink south-eastwards tonight with drier and less windy conditions following into the northwest for a time. However, Storm Ciara will be deepening out over the Atlantic and severe south-westerly gales with heavy rain will arrive across much of the north and west by the morning. This takes us into a pretty stormy Sunday with widespread gales and severe gales pushing south-eastwards. Winds across inland regions could gust up to 60-70 MPH, but in exposed spots damaging gusts of over 80 MPH are possible. Heavy rain will be pushing southeast too before somewhat brighter, more showery and less windy conditions follow from the northwest, reaching all but the southeast of England by the end of the afternoon.
