As far as the weather is concerned, there's both good news and bad news in the outlook for Britain and Ireland. The good news is for those who have had enough of the heat and humidity because cooler, fresher air is expected to spread south across much of the country this weekend with even southern and south-western areas finally seeing some relief from the hot weather. The bad news is for those hoping for some meaningful rainfall as there's very little rain in the forecast for at least another week, if not longer, in many areas.
Back to this morning, and once again areas of mist and low cloud have spread inland from the North Sea overnight across much of northern and eastern Britain with the cloud bringing the odd shower or spot of drizzle in places. Further south and west, skies are largely clear and, as the morning progresses, much of that low cloud will burn back towards eastern and north-eastern coasts where the odd shower remains possible. Elsewhere, it will be another mostly fine and dry day with plenty of sunshine, although this may become a little hazy at times. There is also a very slight chance of an isolated heavy, thundery shower developing across parts of the south and southwest. Top temperatures will range from the mid to high teens around north-eastern coasts where the onshore breeze and lingering cloud persist to the mid and high twenties across many inland and south-western areas.
A somewhat cooler and fresher night follows, especially in rural northern areas where temperatures will drop down into single figures. Whilst many places remain dry with clear spells, cloud will increase across northern and eastern regions perhaps bringing the odd shower. This leads into a noticeably cooler and fresher weekend for many as northerly winds develop. Saturday will also be a cloudier day in many areas with that cloud producing the odd shower, some of which could be heavy, although most places will remain dry.
