Temperatures will once again soar across south-eastern parts of the UK today with maximums climbing into the low to mid-30s. However, the heat won't last much longer as somewhat cooler and fresher conditions begin to move in from the northwest during the rest of the week. Despite this change, there will be little, if any, rain for the parched south.
We start this morning with cloudier skies across the north and west of Britain and Ireland as outbreaks of rain, locally heavy in places, push north-eastwards across much of Ireland, Northern Ireland and into central and southern Scotland. A pulse of heavier rain is expected to track north-eastwards across northern and western Ireland during the day before moving through Northern Ireland and into southwest Scotland this afternoon.
Further north it will become brighter, although a few showers will develop. Meanwhile, for many parts of England and Wales it will be another fine and dry day with plenty of hot July sunshine. The best of the sunshine will be found across the southeast, whilst parts of Wales, northern England and western England will see more in the way of cloud at times.
There will be quite a range of temperatures across the country today with maximums ranging from 16°C to 19°C in the far north and west, 20°C to 25°C across southern Scotland, northern England, Wales and southwest England, rising to 30°C to 35°C across central, eastern and south-eastern England.
The cold front bringing rain to northern regions today will edge south-eastwards this evening and tonight but by the time it reaches Wales and northern England much of the rain will have fizzled out. It will remain fine and warm across the southeast whilst northern areas experience a cooler night with a few showers developing, particularly towards the northwest.
Thursday sees the fine and very warm weather hanging on across the far southeast of England although temperatures will generally be lower than those expected today. The weakening cold front will bring more cloud at times but little, if any, rainfall, with many central and northern regions enjoying a dry and bright day. The exception will be northern Scotland where further heavy showers are likely.
