An area of low pressure will track eastwards across northern parts of the British Isles today bringing gusty winds and outbreaks of heavy rain to the northwest. Further south and east, however, a ridge of high pressure will keep much of England and Wales dry and bright for much of the day.
There are a few showers affecting western coastal regions this morning, but for many places Wednesday is dawning dry with variable cloud amounts. However, it won't be long before thickening cloud and freshening winds bring outbreaks of rain into western and northwestern parts of Ireland. This rain, turning heavy and persistent in places, will then spread into Northern Ireland and western Scotland through the day. For much of the rest of Britain and Ireland it will be a drier day, with variable and often large amounts of cloud bringing the risk of the odd shower. There will also be some bright or sunny spells developing with southern and south-western parts of England likely to see the best of these by this afternoon. It will become warm in any sunshine, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 26°C. However, the further north and west you are, the cooler it will be, with northwest Scotland seeing temperatures held in the low to mid teens, feeling distinctly cool as the wind and rain arrive.
Wet and rather windy weather will affect many parts of northern Britain this evening and tonight before a weakening band of rain gradually sinks southeastwards later in the night, with blustery showers following into the northwest. Tomorrow will see that band of cloud and patchy rain clearing away from southern areas. Many places will then enjoy a day of variable cloud with the odd shower, especially across northern regions, although these will gradually fade as pressure begins to rise from the southwest.
