When Boiling Isn't Boiling..Added : Friday at 11:30 The GFS ► model seems rather keen on bringing back some heat across England and Wales next week as winds turn back to the South :-

But this reminds us of a heatwave we saw many moons ago with Uncle Ken in the garden saying that "There's hot and there is hot hot! This is hot hot!"
At this point, we said that there is actually a temperature scale we use which helps us out with this one, but Uncle Ken had his own scale. "It's hot hot, but it's not boiling!" he assured us.
One of the things you'll learn studying meteorology is all the scales which are used. Celsius, named after Anders Celsius sounds pretty straight forward. After all, water freezes at zero and boils at a hundred. In fact, when Celsius first devised the scale, it was the other way round and for good reason. You see, clear water freezes at zero wherever you are in the world, but have you tried making a cup of tea in the Alps? The boiling point of water changes based on pressure, the lower the pressure, the lower the boiling point. If you tried boiling a kettle at the top of Mount Everest then it would start boiling at around 68C which is why the tea room at the top of Mount Everest has a 1 star review on TripAdvisor*
Uncle Ken's temperature scale was something similar to this and he soon launched into the heat he had experienced. This ranged from "hot to hot, hot" as well as "scorching and blistering!"
The peak seemed to be on a holiday with Aunt Barbara in Malaga a few years back when his scale peaked at "Absolutely fu....", but that scale isn't used on Metcheck, we stick to Celsius.
So, turning warmer later next week once again across the UK. Interestingly, early August tends to see a warm period across the UK and this year perhaps no different.
Where this sits on Uncle Kens Temperature Scale is yet to be seen, we did ask him what he would call temperatures in the 30s across the UK, but he'd popped back into the kitchen to get more ice for Auntie Barbara's drink.
Have a lovely weekend...
